Home practice - 'A few minutes a day'

The short daily practice at home is the main engine of StarBarre Harmony, together with learning the exercises with a master. From a learning perspective, the daily practice is critical to progress from session to session. The short home practice also prepares clients for later stages of the method (6 stars and above) in which the short home practice is the essence of the method. The reason the home practice takes only a few minutes is for it to be effective and short, and to blend in with life rather than taking over it.

The short practice is not a compromise to quality or range of movements during the session. Reaching 6 star level, i.e. the ability to perform the 34 Harmony exercises harmoniously in 7 minutes at home may require months of dedicated studying.

Once achieved, however, clients have an amazing tool at their disposal which can be used when ever the body needs a boost.

The short practice at home also has a practical purpose. For example, if the home practice was a 45 minute session, it would be much more difficult for clients to comply even if they understand the significance.

The home exercises can be performed also without a StarBarre unit, by using a kitchen counter or windowsill, a chair and a regular door way as substitute. This might be less convenient but no compromise to the exercises and just as effective at home of when traveling.

The short daily practice is not instead of other activities and sports. Rather, the regular harmonious movement training aims to prepare the body for activity, improve performance, and prevent injury. Eventually ( 6 Star level and above), it becomes a powerful tool of nature to be used after long rests, just before activities and whenever the body and mind needs an instant boost.

Progress to the Next Star Level

With good teaching, good learning and daily practice at home, it is just a question of time until the sequence exercises become easy. That is the time to progress to the next functional level.

  • 1-3 Stars
    • In the new star level, some of the exercises remain, some exercises become more complex, and some exercises will be new.

  • 4 stars

    • An intermediate learning period in which each of the 34 Harmony Sequence exercises is learned and practiced in detail.

  • 5 Stars

    • Practice and master the 34 Harmony exercises harmoniously in sequence – Multiple repetitions 45-minute session.

  • 6 Stars

    • Practice and master the 34 Harmony exercises harmoniously in sequence – Single repetition 7-minute session.

  • 7 Stars

    • Practice the 6 Stars level harmony sequence daily for a week.

  • 8 Stars

      • Reduce difficulty level (see exercise page)

      • Reduce movement range (see exercise page)

      • Reduce star level of sequence training.

Subsequent Visits

  • At a StarBarre Harmony rehab studio or via online video chat:

    • 1 hour Sessions.

    • Max 6 clients/Clinical Harmony Master.

  • Evaluate current condition with respect to initial complaints, findings and goals.

  • Inquire about home training compliance:

    • Did you exercise the short video daily?

    • How was it? (easy, challenging or difficult)

    • Was there a difficult or painful exercise?

  • If the home sequence was difficult or multiple exercises painfull:

    • Regress to the previous star level (of same journey) and perform the long video of the new sequence during the session. Correct performance and address movement issues.

    • Continue daily practice at home with short video of new level.

  • If the home sequence was easy and pain free:

    • Progress to the next star level (of same journey) and perform the long video of the new sequence. Correct performance and address movement issues.

    • Continue daily practice at home with short video of new level.

  • If the home sequence was challenging:

    • Perform the long video clip of the same sequence during the session. Correct performance and address movement issues.

    • Continue daily practice at home with short video of same level.

End of Rehabilitation Process

  • According to the goals set in the initial visit.

  • General indication for ending the rehabilitaion process: Once the 3 stars series of the clients’ relevant journey is mastered, i.e., pain free and performed easily on a daily basis.

    • This is because the 3 stars exercises (in all journeys) represent normal functional movements, which are expected from people who are generally healthy.

  • In some cases of lower prognosis, reaching a level in which the 1 star sequence can be performed daily without pain might also be considered a successful rehabilitation process provided the original complaints have been sufficiently addressed, and the short video is practiced daily.

  • Once the sequence is performed daily in a harmonious manner, together with regular aerobic activity like walking, running, or playing fun sport games, the client gains a powerful prevention tool as well as a pre-tested way out in case of reoccurrence.

Post Rehab Options

  • Continue practicing the final rehab sequence daily at home

    • This will strengthen and lengthen the rehab benefits and work to prevent recurrences.

    • In the case of recurrence, the knowledge and prior practice of the exercises will minimize the recurrence and benefit recovery.

  • Continue Harmony training for lifestyle

    • Gradually, progress your star level in the holistic (yellow) journey (4-10 Stars).

    • Continue training daily and leading a healthy active lifestyle
